PURPOSE: To attain batch manufacturing by constituting a head and a suspension as one unit by providing a coil and a suspension means electrically insulated from first and second magnetic pole pieces which magnetically activate those magnetic pole pieces. CONSTITUTION: In a combined read assembly 30, for example, full lengh forming a suspension part 37 has relatively uniform thickness, and one end is made rather thick. A magnetic read/write head 40 is formed in a rectangular main body made of dielectric materials such as Al2 O3 or SiO2 , and a slider air bearing surface(ABS) is pattern-formed on the lower face. The ABS is provided with a formed projection 33 on the lower face of the assembly 30, and the surface is covered with an abrasion resistant layer 35 such as a diamond-shaped carbon so that abrasion and damage when the assembly 30 is brought into contact with the medium surface are reduced. Thus, an integral combined magnetic transducer/suspension assembly suitable for both contact recording and Winchester type can be obtained. |
