PURPOSE:To provide the automatic tracking position measuring instrument for mobile object so as to automatically tracking the mobile object with high reliability even when a mobile object moves at comparatively high speed. CONSTITUTION:A light emitting object 20 is provided at one of objects A and B to be relatively moved, and an image pickup means S is provided at the other object. Then, this instrument is provided with a tracking control means for operating image pickup angle adjusting means 11 and 12 of the image pickup means S so as to catch the light emitting object 20 inside an image pickup view field based on the image pickup information of the image pickup means S, image pickup angle detecting means 1 for detecting an image pickup angle, distance detecting means 13 for detecting a distance to the light emitting object by setting a detecting direction along an image pickup direction, and position measuring means for measuring the position of the light emitting object 20 based on image pickup angle information and distance detection information and when the light emitting object 20 stays at a prescribed position inside the image pickup view field, the distance detecting means 13 performs the distance detecting operation. |
