PURPOSE:To produce a 9,9-dialkylfluorene in a high yield by the use of a proton- removing agent free from the dangers of firing and explosion. CONSTITUTION:This method for producing a 9,9-dialkylfluorene of the formula (R1, R2 are substituted or non-substituted alkyl) is characterized by reacting fluorene or a 9-alkyl fluorene with an alkylating agent in the presence of an alkyl metal hydroxide in a polar aprotic solvent under an inert gas atmosphere. In the process, the yield of the 9,9-dialkylfluorene can be improved by the coexistence of a phase transfer catalyst and/or a cation-scavenging agent. |
