PURPOSE: To easily judge whether a metal, particularly a hard metal can be coated or not, by measuring the content of binder metal by X-ray fluorometric analysis, and determining the scale of the coating aptitude. CONSTITUTION: The content of the binder metal such as cobalt or the like on the surface of the metal, particularly the hard metal, is measured in permeate depth of 3-8μm by the X-ray fluorometric analysis. The metal of severalμm is chipped from one area of the metal, the first measurement for knowing the content of the binder metal in the standard composition of the metal is executed, and then the second measurement on the area of which the coating aptitude is to be assessed, is executed. The two measurements are compared, and it can be judged that the binding of carbide to the surface to be coated, is not enough for performing the coating by the effective plasma reinforcement physical evaporation method, when the loss of the content of the binder metal by more than 30% is measured on the second measurement area.
