PURPOSE:To enable a catalyst to maintain its life for a long period without sintering the catalyst, suppress the formation of by-products and produce glyoxal in high yield. CONSTITUTION:This method for producing glyoxal is to subject ethylene glycol to the oxidative dehydrogenation at 500-700 deg.C in the presence of a silver catalyst prepared by silvering a carrier. Furthermore, the silver catalyst used therefor is provided.
