PURPOSE: To provide a desilvering method which is environmentally healthy and efficient. CONSTITUTION: This method for desilvering the developed color negative silver halide photographic element is composed of a stage for bleaching the photographic element with a peracid bleaching agent, then bringing this photographic element into contact with a fixing bath, contg. a thiosulfuric acid anion and 1 sodium cation. The value (mol-minute fixing time) obtd. by dividing the product of the contact time to bring the photographic element into contact with the fixing sol. and the mol concn. of the thiosulfuric acid anion by the ratio of the sodium cation as paired ions is specified to<1.9mol-minute.
