PURPOSE: To execute the resolution modification of a halftone image by performing de-screening for generating a continuoustone image. CONSTITUTION: A device incorporates a plurality of different filters 20, respectively having interpolating and de-screening functions. The device is provided with a filter device for removing screen information from a halftone image and a controller 22 for selecting one of the filters 20 for acting on the vicinity of the pixels of a continuous-tone image as the function of desired resolution modification at every pixel.
