PURPOSE: To obtain the ultrasonic image-forming device which generates a stereoscopic ultrasonic image of an object in an short time, easily and advantageously in cost by using a two-dimensional sensor matrix and then obtaining a signal needed for image generation regarding a surface where the pressure sensors of the sensor matrix are present. CONSTITUTION: This device has a concave surface-type piezoelectric transducer which is spherically curved as a sound wave source 1. This transducer generates a sound wave pulse which converges on a focus F. The sound wave source 1 is so constituted as to form a space which is made open with a substantially conic sound wave surrounding a sound axis A, but substantially. Namely, no sound wave is radiated in the center area 2 of the sound source 1. In this open space, an acoustic imaging lens 3 is provided and an ultrasonic sensor 4 which has a two-dimensional sensor matrix is provided in the area of a focus conjugate to the focus F of the sound wave of the imaging lens. Consequently, a three- dimensional ultrasonic image can be generated in real time with only a single sound wave pulse and usable for a medical device in medical treatment which uses ultrasonic waves.
