PURPOSE:To provide the method and the device for picture outline extraction which segment only a picture part to be processed of a read document. CONSTITUTION:The read document arranged on a document platen is scanned, and data of the document platen is set as reference data in accordance with obtained scan data, and this reference data and scan data are successively compared with each other to retrieve picture data of the read document. First retrieved picture data is defined as the outline extraction start point; and if lower scan data adjacent to this picture data is on the outline (step S50), next scan data is read out (step S51). If it is not on the outline, the retrieval direction of scan data is changed by 90 deg. (step S52); and if it is not on the outline (step S53), the retrieval direction of scan data is changed by 180 (step S54). This operation is repeated (step S55) to extract the contour of picture data. |
