The process is characterised by the culturing of a mutant of an L-glutamic acid-producing microorganism of the genus Brevibacterium or Corynebacterium which has a lower alpha -ketoglutaric acid dehydrogenase activity than the wild strain from which the mutant derives, in a liquid nutrient medium containing biotin in a concentration of 10 to 1000 mu g/l, without addition to the medium of a substance which suppresses the activity of biotin, the production and accumulation of L-glutamic acid in the culture solution and the recovery of L-glutamic acid from the culture solution. |
