In a method for the compressive shrinkage of a textile fabric web on a shrinkage apparatus as a function of a separately determined presetting of the shrinkage value, a uniform thread density of the fabric web at the machine outlet can be obtained if the presetting of the shrinkage value is readjusted as a function of the thread-density value measured on the fabric web running through the shrinkage apparatus.
