The present invention relates to a method for the enhancement of hair growth and to topical compositions suitable for use in the method. Peptides that can be found in the salivary glands of the sand fly Lutzomyia longipalpis, exemplified by maxadilan, are utilized for the enhancement of hair growth and the prevention of epilation and trichogenous effects.
