The tap comprises a body (18) with hot and cold water inlet passages (2, 3), and a mixed water outlet (4). A plastic base (5), supports a fixed hardened plate (1), through which the water branches pass. The outlet port houses a tubular spigot (6) integral with the base (5) and which extends into the mixing chamber. A sliding plate (7) is actuated by a single lever control (16) and has a tee slot, which is a slide fit over the extended spigot (6). The sliding plate is thus guided by and pivots about the spigot (6). The degree of opening and closing of the ports is affected by area (11', 11") of the slots and the fingers, which eliminate the instantaneous changes in the flows.
