The operating drive has a housing (6) containing an electric motor (2) driving a worm gear (3, 4) for operation of the roof or window panel. The worm gear element (3) driven by the motor (2) lies at the longitudinal centre of the latter and is attached to the armature laminations (10). Pref. the motor housing (6) has an opening (13) adjacent the driven worm gear element (3), allowing the latter to engage an output cog (14) contained in a drive housing (19) attached to the side of the motor housing (6). ADVANTAGE - Arranged to allow emergency manual operation upon failure of electric motor.
