<p>A portable basketball system (10) which fits within a relatively flat container for shipping is as follows: A hollow ballast receiving base (18) receives a sectional pole (12), a hoop (16), and a backboard (14) in formations (78, 90) molded into the upper and lower surfaces thereof for shipping. In use the lower end of the pole is mounted by pivot (38) to the base and held in a vertical position by a brace (114) connected between the base and pole. The pole end of the brace is clamped at its upper end to the pole by a contractile collar (122) which is disposed for sliding movement along the pole. To facilitate moving the apparatus into position on a playing surface the collar can be loosened, the pole is tilted to an inclined position backwards over the base, and the entire assembly is tilted about wheels (104, 106) mounted to the lower rear edge of the base.</p> |
