The invention relates to an open drinking vessel, preferably to a cup, having a substantially plane base and an annular edge projecting downwards beyond the base. Provided in this edge are arcuate indentations which are distributed uniformally over its circumference, which taper to a point from the bottom upwards and the ends of which, likewise preferably terminating in a point downwards, form small feet which serve for standing the vessel on an underlying surface. The edge of the vessel which projects downwards beyond the base may have a smaller diameter than the vessel itself and the arcuate indentations may be of an arcade-like shape over the circumference of the edge. It is advantageous if in the wall between the arcs vertically running narrow ribs are provided which run upwards into the wall of the vessel, and if the wall in the region of the arcs is also indented from the outside inwards. In a particularly advantageous embodiment of the invention, a cup provided with small feet is combined with a saucer which has an elevated central part used for standing the cup, the central part having an annular edge in which there are provided recesses serving for the drainage of liquid collecting on the central part into the annular space between the edge of the saucer and the central part.
