A cyclic pentapeptide represented by the general formula (I) cyclo (-X<1>-X<2>-X<3>-X<4>-X<5>-) and a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof, wherein each X (n = 1-5) represents an amino acid residue, i.e., X<1> DTrp(2-Br), etc.; X<2> DAsp, etc.; X<3> Pro1, etc.; X<4> DVal, etc.; and X<5> Ala, etc. The peptide has endothelin antagonism and is useful for preventing and treating various diseases related to endothelin.
