Apparatus for the defined feeding transport of elongated workpieces of identical cross-section, in particular sectional bars or reinforced-concrete bars, in a cutting machine. The construction includes a work-transport passage, a driving roller, working on the workpiece, in the work-transport passage, and a counterpressure roller. The workpiece is arranged between driving roller and counterpressure roller, the counterpressure roller being attached to a counterpressure cylinder with servo piston which performs a feed stroke and a return stroke, and the counterpressure cylinder being controlled by a hydraulic fixed-cycle control circuit with control valve arrangement. A feed line as well as a return line for the movement of the servo piston are run from the control valve arrangement to the counterpressure cylinder. A non-return valve is arranged in the feed line for the movement of the servo piston. The non-return valve is bypassed by a bypass line. A stroke-control cylinder with stroke-control piston for the return stroke of the servo piston is arranged in the bypass line. The stroke of the stroke-control piston can be set via mechanical means, and the return stroke of the servo piston can be hydraulically blocked in accordance with the stroke of the stroke-control piston. <IMAGE>
