A switching device which can be used in specific-service and integrated-service networks has at least one exchange-network monitoring component (ZNKK) and a narrowband switching component (SVK), the narrowband switching component (SVK) having a network interface device (NSS), a switching network and channel unit device (KF-KA) and an adaptation device (ANP). A first transmission system (ÜSS1) connects the adaptation device (ANP) to the exchange-network monitoring component (ZNKK) and to first inputs and outputs of units of the switching network and channel unit device (KF-KA), and a second transmission system (ÜSS2) connects the network interface device (NSS) to the exchange-network monitoring component (ZNKK) and to second inputs and outputs of the units of the switching network and channel unit devices (KF-KA). <IMAGE>
