APPARATUS FOR MEASURING ELECTRICAL ACTIVITY OF HEART

A smooth surfaced, inelastic, flexible, belt-like strip (2) for recording electrocardiograms having a series of six separate pre-cordial electrodes (5, 19), three fixed (5) and three independently movable leads (7) with electrodes (19) and movable within a fixed range. The fixed electrodes (5) maintain contact with patients' chests despite variations in chest size amont patients. The apparatus is attached around the chest with an adjustable elastic strap (9) providing a constant and evenly distributed downward force. Internal lead wires (6) from the pre-cordial electrodes (5, 19) and from left arm and right arm electrodes (26) attached via external lead wires (8), are inside or on the outside surface of the belt-like strip (2) and emerge therefrom at one place to form a main cable (12) which connects to an electrocardiograph machine. Two additional wire leads (16) from electrodes (23) on each leg enter the main cable (12) to transmit signals from each lower limb electrode (23) to the electrocardiograph machine.
