According to the invention, material strands of plastics foam are cooled by moving moulds in order to accomplish more accurate extrusion and/or to accomplish a specifically intended formation of the surface and/or to accomplish an optimum cell structure and/or optimum utilisation of the foamability (expandability) of the material.
