<p>An intubating instrument (30) comprising a laryngoscopic blade (31) adapted for introduction into a patient's throat to expose the laryngeal opening for endotracheal intubation; side walls (39) formed integrally with the blade (31) and forming an elongated channel for an endotracheal tube (40); support handle housing for supporting the blade (31); a first and second quick-connect coupling adapted to be mechanically engaged to lock the blade (31) to the handle housing in a predetermined angular relationship; a finger activated trigger (78) adapted to initiate operation of an endotracheal tube driver (50) operatively associated with the handle housing and the blade (31) and adapted to engage a proximal portion of an endotracheal tube (40) in the channel and to advance the tube (40) beyond the distal end of the blade (31) to introduce the distal end of the tube (40) into the trachea; whereby the exposure of the glottic opening and the introduction of the endotracheal tube (40) may be effected with one hand.</p> |
