An apparatus for cleaning tunnel kiln cars (1), in particular in brickmaking, which have a base filling (4, 5) with spaced-apart transverse rows of bottom blocks (5) in which hollow spaces permitting an air draught are formed, has the following construction: a brush roller (10) provided with a rotary drive (9) is arranged at such a height transversely across the car track (3), at least across the width of the tunnel kiln cars (1), that it touches the surface of the bottom blocks (5). A guide (14) and a travel drive (17, 18) for a suction head (16) are arranged in the feed direction behind this brush roller (10) at such a height that the suction head (16) reaches from above into the channels (12) which are formed between the transverse rows of the bottom blocks (5) and into which it can be moved from the side. A drive is provided for feeding the tunnel kiln cars (1) in steps which are equal to the distances from channel (12) to channel (12). The brush roller (10) rotates during the feeds, and the suction head (16) travels through the channels (12) during the feed pauses. <IMAGE>
