The invention relates to a drum-type washing machine with a tub for receiving a washing drum which is rotatable about a horizontal axis and which can be driven by means of a motor, in which machine the tub is suspended resiliently and is supported in the machine housing by means of two vibration dampers, and in which machine a sensor is mounted on one vibration damper and responds to the vibrations of the tub. By means of an optical or magnetic sensor incorporated into a vibration damper designed as a friction damper, the entire vibratory action of the tub is recorded continuously in terms of amplitude, polarity and frequency.
