A filter is described which is constructed in such a way that it can be installed in a pipe string connection apparatus having a first and second section, the filter being provided with a hollow metal base body having a first and a second open end and a first and a second wall section which are formed between the ends, the wall sections being deformable between a first position in which the wall sections are spaced from each other by a first distance before the connection apparatus parts are united and a second position in which the wall sections are sealed against the connection apparatus parts, and are separated from each other by a second distance after the connection apparatus parts are united; and a filter element which is mounted on the base body.
