PURPOSE:To provide a method capable of continuously producing high quality optical fiber by enhancing controllability when an optical fiber preform is heated and drawn. CONSTITUTION:The method for producing optical fiber F21 by drawing an optical fiber preform F11 with a heating and drawing means (a feeding device 11, a heating oven 21, a drawing device 51) comprises taking the non-processed preform image F12 and processed preform image F13 of the optical preform F11 with a camera 72 of an image-treating device 71 and controlling the feeding rate of the optical fiber preform F11 on the outer diameter of a drawn end determined from the image. Since the feeding rate of the optical fiber preform F11 is controlled, the change in the outer diameter of the optical fiber preform F21 caused by the irregularity of the outer diameter of the matrix can be controlled. |
