PURPOSE:To enable easy and safe manufacture of an ester salicylate derivative having a specific main constituent, by making a specific alpha-methylbenzylhalide derivative react with a specific ester salicylate derivative in the presence of a sulfuric acid. CONSTITUTION:An alpha-methylbenzyl halide derivative is made to react with ester salicylate derivetives expressed respectively by general formulas shown separately, in the presence of a sulfuric acid. Then, an ester salicylate derivative composition containing a 3,5-di(alpha-methylbenzyl) salicylate derivative of 60 to 90wt.% is manufactured. In each of the formulas, R1 denotes an alkyl group, an aralkyl group or an aryl group, R2 and R3 hydrogen atoms or the alkyl 23 groups respectively and X a halogen atom. The manufactured composition may also be subjected to hydrolysis or made to react with a metallic salt. Moreover, a developing sheet may also be constructed by using the metallic salt as a developer. |
