PURPOSE:To obtain a hydrogen storage alloy having considerably improved corrosion resistance by preparing a hydrogen storage alloy consisting of La, Ce, Pr, Nd, Ni, Co, Al, Mn, etc., in a specified ratio and contg. a specified amt. of carbon. CONSTITUTION:A hydrogen storage alloy represented by a formula LnaNi5-(b+c+d) CobAlcMd and having <=500ppm carbon content is prepd. In the formula, Ln is a metal having a compsn. consisting of 40-80wt.% La, 10-60wt.% Ce, <=5wt.% Pr and <=5wt.% Nd, M is at least one kind of element selected among Mn, Fe and Cu, 0.95<=a<=1.05, 0.2<=b<=1.0, 0.1<=c<=1.0 and 0<=d<=0.5. The objective hydrogen storage alloy having considerably improved corrosion resistance and especially suitable for use as a negative electrode for an alkaline cell is obtd. |
