ALKYL-SUBSTITUTED HYDROQUINONE DERIVATIVE FOR USE IN FERROELECTRIC LIQUID CRYSTAL MIXTURE

Ferroelectric liquid-crystal mixture containing at least one compound of the formula I in which the symbols and indices have the following meanings: R<8> is alkyl or halogen, and R<1>[-A<1>-M<1>]m-A<2>-M<2> and M<3>-A<3>[-M<4>-A <4 ]n-R<2> are mesogenic radicals. The compounds of the formula I, even in small amounts, induce nematic phases, but have virtually no effect on important properties of the SC* phase, such as viscosity and switching angle.
