PURPOSE:To enable a required image to be formed even when a medium to be recorded is changed by a method wherein a size of a dot formed on the medium to be recorded by varying an amount of an ink drop to be discharged according to a kind of the medium to be recorded in an ink jet printer CONSTITUTION:A bar code 112 marked onto packaging paper of a material to be recorded is read with a bar code reader 111, and a kind of paper 102 is discriminated. A stepping motor 115 is rotated according to the discriminated result to rotate a worm gear 116. Ink tanks 113Y, 113M, 113C, 113BK are vertically moved to vary a relative height relation (a water head difference) of a liquid face of the ink tank and an orifice of a nozzle plate. Then, an ink drop of an amount conforming to a characteristic of the detected paper is jetted from the orifice. |
