A digging device comprises a movable frame which, on the front side as seen in the direction of travel, bears a horizontal blade which is adjoined by a conveyor track, which is directed upwards and towards the rear at an angle, for the soil with plants which have been cut free by the blade. The efficiency of the digging device can be improved further in that a rotary component is located between the blade and the conveyor track, which rotary component can rotate about an axis of rotation which is parallel to the blade, in such a manner that the rotating component applies a conveying action to the soil with plants which has been cut free, in the direction from the blade towards the conveyor track.
