Compounds of formula 1 wherein A is (1) -CHR<3>CH2Y, -CH2CHR<3>Y or-CR<3> = CHY (Y is a substituent and R<3> is H or a substituent) or (2) CH2OA<1>, CH2OCOA<1>, CH2OSO2A<1> or CH2SA<1> (A<1> is H or a substituent); B is hydrogen or as A(1); R<1> is halogen or an organic substituent; and R<2> is hydrogen or a substituent, and salts thereof are human leukolyte elastase inhibitors and may be used in the treatment of degenerative or inflammatory diseases.
