The end part (1) of the fastening element is to be driven into a wooden support. The end part (1) exhibits a cutter (4). The other end part (2) of the fastening element is bent around in the form of a hook in order to receive a plate. Consequently, the fastening element can be driven, by means of the cutter (4), into a wooden support such that the cutter (4) runs perpendicularly with respect to the grain direction. This avoids splitting of the wood because, when the end part (1) is driven in, the cutter (4) cuts up the fibres and no longer disintegrates. The fastening element may advantageously be used as an Eternit hook for Eternit plates for roofs and side walls of buildings. <IMAGE>
