The operation of a recording VCR is controlled by a key of a reproducing VCR. The method comprises the steps of: (A) setting a second VCR in editing mode; (B) detecting that a video signal generated by a first VCR is received by a second VCR; (C) discriminating that received video signal is generated by a normal reproduction mode or by FF or FR mode; and (D) operating a second VCR according to discriminated type of video signal so that a second video is in pause mode when a video signal generated by a first VCR is in FF or FR mode.
