The subject of the invention is a device allowing bidirectional remote communication, including the transmission and reproduction of voice, image and of any digital information, in a site open to the public, by virtue of a compact assembly of technical facilities for coding, remote transmission (on the switched telephone or digital network) and settlement of the charges of usage of these means (by phone card or bankers card). As an option, an audio-visual session recording device (12) may be coupled to the main device (1). The assembly, given its small size, may be housed in a cabin which is isolating from the visual and sound point of view, and be installed in a commercial vehicle. The level of quality of transmission is controllable by the user. Simultaneous (multipoint) communication with several remote stations is possible. The assembly may make use of component elements of microcomputers. Referring to the Figure, (2) and (13) are the cameras, (3) is a screen, (4), (5) and (6) are the voice elements, (7) is a control keyboard, (8) and (9) are card readers, (10) is a standardised binary interface, and (11) is a portable microcomputer. The device according to the invention is intended for any private or professional use requiring sophisticated telecommunication facilities to be made available in immediate proximity. <IMAGE>
