Diaper having improved leaktightness whatever the position of the user and in particular when the latter sleeps on his/her side. The diaper according to the invention comprises a fluid-impermeable outer support sheet 1, an absorbent pad 2, a liquid-permeable inner cover sheet 3, first longitudinal elastic elements 8, two side flaps 10 extending above the pad, second longitudinal elastic elements 15 fixed on the flaps in proximity to their distal edges 14, openings 16 for passage of the legs of the user, which openings are made in the region of the flaps corresponding to the crotch region 5 of the diaper and which are transversely offset in the direction of the distal edges 14 of the flaps with respect to the longitudinal mid-axis of the diaper, and third elastic elements 17 which are fixed, tensioned, on the flaps between a longitudinal edge of the openings and the proximal edges 13 of the flaps.
