In order to clean and inspect main sewers of large diameter, use is made of a device for cleaning and inspecting mains sewers of large cross section, characterised in that it includes: - a remote-controlled unit (2) having displacement means (3, 35) in order to be displaced in the sewer, a removable receptacle (4) and loading means (5, 6) for filling the removable receptacle (4) with solid bodies or materials contained in the sewer, the said remote-controlled unit also including at least one camera for visualising the loading means (5, 6) and the condition of the sewer, - a distant remote-control station (8) for controlling the operation of the said remote-controlled unit and for visualising the images taken by the said at least one camera, and - linking means (9) for transmitting at least information from the remote-control station (8) towards the remote-controlled unit, and vice versa. <IMAGE>
