Steering device for a vehicle

A steering device is provided for a vehicle, in particular an industrial truck or a front-loading or side-loading forklift truck, which is provided with a plurality of vehicle axles which can be steered independently of one another and to which in each case one adjustment motor is assigned. Furthermore, the steering device comprises a steering computer which outputs a control signal as a function of a prescribed set value and an actual value of the position of the vehicle axles. In order to ensure in a way which is favourable for energy technology, adjustment of the individual vehicle axles with a high degree of precision, there is provision for the adustment motor to be a quickly rotating electric motor downstream of which a transmission device with a high step down ratio is connected, the said transmission device acting on an adjustment element of the respective vehicle axle. Here, the control signal of the steering computer is transmitted directly to the electric motor. The r.p.m. of the electric motor is preferably in the range between 1,500 1/min to 6,000 1/min and the transmission device is a step down ratio of preferably 300 : 1 to 500 : 1.
