For receiving coinage, coin-operated self-service machines have at the front a coin-insertion slot followed by a coin channel which terminates at a coin tester. The innovation on which the invention is based is now to afford the possibility that self-service machines can be operated both with coinage and with a credit card. To receive a data carrier designed as a credit card, the coin channel has guide grooves, in which the data carrier can be introduced into the coin channel. Arranged on the outside of the side wall of the coin channel is a contact unit which projects through perforations into the coin channel. As a result of the introduction of the data carrier, the latter butts against a stop tab of a frame part of the contact unit, with the result that the latter is deflected in the direction of the data carrier.
