A control device for inlet and exhaust valves of an internal combustion engine contains, on a camshaft (3), at least one de-activatable cam (5), which, due to the influence of the pressure medium in a pressure chamber (10), can be axially displaced between a position in which it is coupled by way of a claw coupling (6) to the camshaft (3) and participates in rotational movements of the said camshaft, and a de-activated position in which the claw coupling (6) is released. In order to prevent influencing of the said pressure control due to pulsation of the pressure medium, non-return valves (19) are provided between a pressure medium duct (12) in the camshaft (3) and the pressure chamber (10), which in the event of pressure pulses prevent an outflow of pressure medium from the pressure chamber (10); in addition, deflection pistons (17) are provided which are displaced only in the event of pressure reductions of the pressure medium in the pressure medium duct (12) in response to commands, for the purpose of increasing the volume of the pressure chamber (10) and accordingly reducing the pressure therein. <IMAGE>
