The present invention discloses a ceramic heater and a method for its production. The ceramic heater encloses a ceramic-heater core which is formed to be rod-shaped and has a hole which extends axially through the heater core. The heater core has a pair of flattened sections in the vicinity of the rear end of the heater core. A conductive heater structure is formed on the outer peripheral surface of the heater core. The heater structure includes end sections which are formed on the respective flattened sections. The ceramic heater likewise includes a protective layer which is formed for the purpose of covering the heater structure with the exception of the end sections and includes flattened, conductive connections which are formed on the respective end structures. <IMAGE>
