A carriage (1) movable on straight guides (2, 3) has at each of the two longitudinal sides two centring arms (8-1) pivotable over it. These centring arms (8-11) are driven by two drive gears (16, 17) which during the feed of the carriage (1) in each case slide along a strip (22, 23) orientated at an angle to the direction of movement of the carriage (1) and consequently impose a rotary movement on the drive gears (16, 17). A spring (26) enables the strips (22, 23) to be pivoted out of the path of movement of the pins (18, 19) as soon as the centring arms (8-11) can no longer be pivoted. <IMAGE>
