The invention relates to a projectile, especially for hunting cloven-hoofed game, which consists of two parts, the diameter of the rear part (4) corresponding to the calibre and being used for guiding the projectile in the barrel, and the front part (1) being a fully encased projectile of smaller diameter. When it strikes the game, the fully encased projectile is detached from the rear projectile part and penetrates the game with only a minor reduction in speed. This reliably results in an exit hole and to a pair of shock effects. The rear projectile part mushrooms and follows the fully encased projectile in the channel through which it has been fired. In consequence, it gives up a large portion of its energy. Furthermore, a far greater shock effect results from the nerve stimulation, produced by the fully encased projectile, and the rear projectile part following one another with only a brief time gap. The rear projectile part is designed such that, as a rule, it also produces an exit hole, but its energy is already so greatly reduced that the damage to the game animal remains low. <IMAGE>
