Method and device for controlling the pressure in a support cushion

A pneumatic support system, especially for the lumbar vertebral column, contains a plurality of air cells which are embedded in a vehicle seat. The system includes a reversible pump which is connected via a conduit to the air cells. A manually actuable pneumatic switch is provided in the conduit, for opening and closing the latter for controlling the compressed air stream to the air cell. A bypass conduit stretches between the pump and the air cell parallel to the manually actuable pneumatic switch, in order to permit automatic inflation and deflation of the air cell with the aid of a processor and without manual control. The processor includes a memory for storing predetermined pressure levels for the automatic control.
