In the construction of signs based on letter or character block bodies on supporting backing surfaces such as a vertical supporting wall, it is usual for these block bodies to be fixed individually at a number of points, which can give rise to problems in cases where the blocks and the backing have different coefficients of thermal expansion. According to the invention, this is offset by an individual, well-defined fastening point being fixed for each block body with standardized positioning, while the other fastening point(s) is (are) characterized by allowing sliding in towards or away from the fastening point. In this way, it will be possible to maintain a visually acceptable appearance of the sign installation in the event of different temperatures. <IMAGE>
