<p>The rail described is intended for use in the construction of permanent way for rail vehicles. The rail has good vibration-absorption characteristics and gives significant reductions in noise levels by virtue of the following design features: When designed as a tramway-type rail (1), the width (B) of the groove (2) is greater than the groove width in a normal tramway-type rail and a shaped-section strip (3) of elastic material is fixed to the outer flank (2a) of the groove (2), the strip being of a thickness (D) such that the distance (A) between the shaped-section strip (3) and the inner flank (2i) of the groove (2) is equal to the groove width in a normal tramway-type rail; and/or a strip of highly wear-resistant material is attached to the side of the rail head along which the flange of a wheel of a rail vehicle travelling along the rail (1) runs and to the side of the groove (2) opposite the exposed surface of the shaped-section strip (2). Strips are embedded in the contact surface of the rail (1), running at an angle and extending over the whole width of the contact surface.</p> |
