A solar cell (Fig. 1) includes a first conductivity type semiconductor substrate (100) having confronting two main surfaces, a second conductivity type first semiconductor layer (102) produced at a portion of first main surface of the semiconductor substrate (100), a second conductivity type second semiconductor layer (203) which, produced on the first main surface of the semiconductor substrate (100) except for the first semiconductor layer production region (102), produces a pn junction (203,202,201,100) with the semiconductor substrate (100) having no reverse direction voltage blocking capability, a first conductivity type third semiconductor layer (204) produced on the second semiconductor layer (203), a first electrode (402,401) provided so as to cover the first semiconductor layer (102) and which connects the third semiconductor layer (204) with the first semiconductor layer (102), and a second electrode (403) produced at a second main surface of the semiconductor substrate (100).
