PURPOSE:To obtain the magnetic recording medium good in electrical characteristic at a short wave length range by incorporating with prescribed amount of Fe atom, Al atom and the atom of rare-earth element as the element constituting a ferromagnetic metallic powder. CONSTITUTION:The magnetic recording medium has the magnetic layer containing a ferromagnetic metallic powder on a non-magnetic supporting body. The element constituting the ferromagnetic powder contains Fe atom, Al atom and rate-earth atom, and the weight ratio in whole ferromagnetic metallic powder is 2-10wt.pts. Al atom and 1-8wt.pts. atom of rate-earth element per 100wt.pts. Fe atom. And the average abundance ratio of the element forming the surface of the ferromagnetic metallic powder is 70-200 Al atoms and 0.5-30 atoms of rare-earth element per 100 Fe atoms. As the rare-earth element, one or more kinds among Sm, Nd, Y, Pr is used. In this way, the magnetic recording medium is appropriate especially for the recording medium for a digital and excellent in electrical characteristic and traveling property at a short wavelength range. |
