摘要 PURPOSE:To suppress whitening of the core surface of an optical fiber, to decrease transmission loss of light, and to introduce formyl groups to the core surface of an optical fiber easily and industrially advantageously by oxidizing primary hydroxyl groups and introducing formyl groups. CONSTITUTION:The core surface of a resin optical fiber is made to react with primay aldehyde alcohol to bond primary hydroxyl groups with the core surface, and then the primary hydroxyl groups are oxidized to introduce formyl groups to the core surface of the resin optical fiber. As for the resin which constitute the resin optical fiber, it is necessary that the resin material has good light transmission of light and does not adsorbs immune compd. For example, polyacrylate is used. The primary aldehyde alcohol used for the reaction to introduce primary hydroxyl groups to the core surface of the resin fiber, such a compd. expressed by general formula OHC-R-CH2OH (R is an alkylene group) is used.
