PURPOSE:To provide a pattern discriminating device in which the discrimination of a large category can be efficiently executed with high reliability in a discrimination system optimal to an arbitrary objective product. CONSTITUTION:This device is provided with a picture element gradation extracting part 108 which extracts the gradation information of picture elements in each small area of input image data, a dictionary preparing part 109 which prepares reference patterns based on the gradation information of the picture elements in each small area extracted from plural samples by the picture element gradation extracting part 108, a discrimination part 110 which discriminates the object to be discriminated by retrieving the reference pattern to which the gradation information of the picture elements in each small area extracted from the object to be discriminated by the picture element gradation extracting part 108 is similar from the reference patterns, and a picture rotating part 107 which positions the image data to be extracted by the picture gradation extracting part 108. |
